Family/pets: My family and in laws all live in the greater Seattle area. My husband is a ROCKSTAR who I met through athletics at UW. Unfortunately no pets, but getting a labradoodle is on my bucket list.

Hidden talent: I am a secret baker to my husband and family’s dismay. 

Something not many people know about you: I played soccer at UW and play for fun every week with old teammates.

Taking any class of Shana's is always a treat! This sweet lady will work every last one of your muscles to fatigue in her Power class- all with a smile! Look out for any Yoga class she subs as well!

When/where did you first discover Pilates/Reformer work/Barre/TRX/etc?:
My early experience on the Reformer was therapeutic and relaxing. More like Tribe's Tone and Stretch class. A few years ago I tried a hybrid Pilates method that combined those gentle qualities with high intensity strength training and cardio and I was hooked.

What clients should expect from your class:
A fun, high intensity Power Reformer class with great music.

Favorite past time: Reading and writing.

Hobbies: Cooking, sewing and urban hiking. I love to walk cities, neighborhood to neighborhood.

Family/pets: Dan is my guy. Esther is our cat. I love them both dearly.

Hidden talent:
Super Recognizer (no, really, it's a thing) "Super recognizers have an “exceptional” ability to recognize faces and can often recognize a person years after catching just a fleeting glimpse of their face, says super recognizer expert Josh P. Something not many people know about you:
I sometimes spend precious minutes of my one life watching Vanderpump Rules. I don't feel good about this and honestly could use some accountability, so I'm just going to leave it here.

Instructor Spotlight- Amy Lenhardt!


Your Fitness Director, Amy, has a big love for people and helping them achieve their best self. She has been a Seattle resident for 10 months now, having moved from the L.A. area last March. Finding and getting to know the community at TRIBE has been her favorite thing about living in this new city. Say hi when you see her at the front desk or in the back studio for Power BARRE!

When/where did you first discover Barre?: As a former professional dancer, I have numerous friends that instructed Barre before it was very well known, so I started getting really into it when I was dancing in New York. After a broken foot put my career on hiatus, Barre was one of the only forms of exercise that really sped up my recovery. It was just my luck that a fantastic Barre studio was opening up near me in CA. I trained for three months with them, and taught for that community for almost two years as one of their original instructors. I love that Barre combines my two loves of dance and fitness, and it leaves me feeling like I can conquer anything after class is over! Even through two pretty serious injuries, Barre has been there to consistently get my body and mind back to tip-top shape.

Favorite past time: Quality time with friends and family.

Hobbies: Knitting, cooking (paleo), reading, taking walks. I'm basically a grandmother. I also still dance and perform as a hobby.

Family/pets: Parents, younger brother, and sister-in-law all in California, and a puggle named Harrison.

Hidden talent: I've been told I'm a really good writer. Also- proof-reading my boyfriend's MBA papers. ;)

Something not many people know about you: I can be pretty nerdy. I am a die hard Star Wars and Harry Potter fan, and I try to read anything I can get my hands on.

Mantra: Dream bigger- then work really really hard on the baby steps to get there.

Anything else you might want the Tribe members to know about you: My classes are low impact, but high intensity. In other words, easy on your joints, but works your muscles hard! Expect a class that’s very music based and high energy, with lots of muscle shakes and one or two (or three or four) jokes thrown in!

Instructor Spotlight- Susan Foley!

Susan Foley

Susan holds a B.A. in Theater Arts from the University of California at Santa Cruz and is also trained in Ballroom Dance and instruction. She originally came to Pilates through Lisa Graham, founder and owner of Agile Monkey Pilates in Santa Cruz, California. Pilates taught Susan how to understand and work with many of her postural deviations, with which she constantly struggled as a performer. She studied for several years with Jeannette Palmer who inspired and encouraged her to pursue teaching. Susan received her training and certification from Pilates Academy International in New York City. She taught as a senior instructor at Pilates on Fifth and as a recurring substitute instructor at Mark Morris Dance Center. She welcomes students of all fitness levels and incorporates modifications appropriate for each individual to ensure that the everyone is working optimally and safely for their own body, skill level, and background.

When/where did you first discover Pilates/Barre/TRX/etc?: A friend of mine who was getting certified in Pilates needed a person to practice on and she asked me. I had never heard of Pilates before and we met weekly for a private session every Friday evening. I was hooked after the first 5 minutes.

Family/pets: I have one older sister who lives in NYC. I had a fish named Warren, but he passed recently.

Instructor Spotlight- Ashleigh Shane!

As well as being a part of the Power BARRE instructor team, Ashleigh is also certified in and subs yoga. Constant curiosity and her love of dance led her to become Barre certified in 2016, and she finds that teaching this new format is quite possibly the most fun you can have at “work." Her classes seek to uplift, inspire and challenge students to honor and celebrate where they are each and every day. She truly believes that movement, coupled with a wicked playlist and a little bit of sweat can remedy just about anything.

When/where did you first discover Barre?: 10 years ago in San Francisco. My sister was going to grad school there and when I went to visit she insisted I try this new amazing workout she had found. It WAS amazing and also kicked my butt! I loved it.

Favorite thing about Barre: The rhythmic nature of it. Each class is like a mini-dance party, where we get to rock out and break a sweat together. Making my playlists has become kind of a mini hobby! I am constantly on the hunt for fun encouraging songs.

Favorite past time: reading 

Hobbies: Travel, checking out new restaurants, cooking, going to concerts and as of last weekend skiing! My husband and I just tried it for the first time last weekend and loved it.

Family/pets: husband Ryan & Brittany Spaniel puppy Charlie who we treat like an actual child. 

Hidden talent: I can speed read!

Something not many people know about you:  I have an unusually strong sense of smell, it's really more annoying than helpful in most situations.

Instructor Spotlight- Leslie Woodward!


Leslie is a holistic nutritionist and yoga therapist recently having relocated to Seattle from Aspen, Colorado. In her nutrition practice, she works with clients wanting to lose weight, heal digestive issues, and increase overall vitality. She also specializes in creating custom cleanses to make the detox experience safer and more efficient. As a yoga teacher, Leslie specializes in an alignment-focused Vinyasa yoga as well as more therapeutic stretch classes. Leslie is also a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy practitioner, which is a combination of yoga and talk therapy, where assisted movement and simple dialogue are combined to increase relaxation and awareness, heal emotional trauma, and improve decision-making skills.

When/where did you first discover Yoga?: I fell in love with yoga when I was a freshman at Boston College and it changed my life forever.

Hobbies: Trail running, skiing, hiking, cooking , and visiting (and cooing at) the sea otters in the aquarium! 

Family/pets: My husband Peter and I rescued a very cute (and incredibly sassy) black lab named Pema. We think this is what having a teenage daughter must be like... so hopefully we're slightly more prepared for the human variety. 

Hidden talent: Hm... possibly a general obsession with the perfect bite of food! I love cooking and coming up with a perfectly balanced, hugely flavorful bite.

Something not many people know about you: I lived in Nepal to study in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery.

David brings his extensive knowledge and body awareness to each class he teaches. As one of the NICEST people you will ever meet, clients love the fun and happiness that come from a David session!

Everything you teach (are certified in):  I am certified in Pilates Reformer and Mat Pilates (test results pending), including beginning and advanced.  As a Certified Personal Trainer, I hold four certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.  I also have a TRX Suspension Trainer and a PiYo certification.  I have taught HIIT, Power Reformer, TRX, Foam and Stretch, and Fit Recess at LAB5.  Currently I teach Tone and Stretch and Reformer Pilates.

Other job(s)?:  I am a fitness writer for a new fitness app (top secret).  I used to be a Certified Public Accountant, but I have finally fully transitioned to fitness work.

When/where did you first discover Pilates/Barre/TRX/etc?:  My wife introduced me to YouTube videos from Cassie Ho.  Cassie Ho's videos are hilarious, and I was quite surprised at the intensity of the core work.  After a neck injury following YouTube routines, I decided that I needed to take Pilates only from well qualified instructors.  LAB5 subsidized my Reformer and Mat teacher training, which I recently completed, and the rest is history!

Favorite class you teach:  Reformer Pilates, the core work is intense!

Favorite past time:  Pokemon Go!  

Hobbies:  Cycling, running, karaoke

Family/pets:  I am married to a wonderful woman named Kelly, who has two of the world's cutest chihuahuas, Wally and Trixie (Trixie is short for Bellatrix LeStrange).

Hidden talent:  Music!  I play drums and some piano, and I used to be a sing barbershop.

Something not many people know about you:  I traveled all over the Northwest as a belly dancing drag queen for charity events.  While dressed as Lady Gaga, I once performed on the stage in front of TRIBE during the Capitol Hill Pride Fest.

How did you discover Pilates?: I taught Fitness Kickboxing for 16 years in gyms from Olympia to Seattle.  I started finding interest in other conditioning classes such as Boot camp and TRX, Barre, pilates and Aerobics.

Favorite classes you teach: Power Pilates and TRX Barre

Favorite past time: I love to Dance!  You all know that already!  I've been taking Afro Brazilian dance classes currently to satisfy my soul.  Someday I'll get back to Flamenco dancing as well.

Hobbies: Music is my other passion.  As lots of you know, I love to make playlists.  I secretly want to be a Radio DJ.  I often attend live music shows.

Something not many people know about you: I have a very mellow side.  I read a lot, practice walking meditation, and am certified in REIKI.

Hidden talent: I studied traditional Chinese Kung Fu for many years.  I've competed in many tournaments, and have made it to TWO World Championships.

Instructor Spotlight- Emily Henry!

Emily Henry

TRIBE is so lucky to have found Emily, who brings a ton of intensity to her Power Reformer and Reformer Pilates classes alike. On Sundays, you can even have the pleasure of taking one of her phenomenal yoga classes. Emily fell in love with Pilates while she lived in Los Angeles for the past 2 years and continued studying with classical teachers to start her rehab path. Her education has an emphasis on therapeutics, and functional movement in both yoga and Pilates. She’s passionate about breath, anatomy, alignment, and anything related to wellness- both mind and body.

When/where did you first discover Pilates?: I discovered Pilates in LA. I loved working-out at this local studio near my home, it had a strong community, the instructors were fabulous, and the owner was inspiring! So began my love for Pilates, which was relatively recently, in 2013!

Favorite past time: My favorite past time is walking to coffee with my pack. 

Hobbies: Hiking, camping, photography, trying out new ways to sweat! 

Family/pets: Soon to be husband, Kevin, Clover (labradoodle), Pumpkin (small, rescue mutt), and our two black cats, Toby and Pepper.

Instructor Spotlight- Rachael Mauney!

Ashleigh Blore
Rachael is our newest Power BARRE instructor, and integrates her extensive dance and fitness background into each fun and challenging class.

Rachael is a professional contemporary dancer and fitness instructor who has relocated to Seattle from Washington, D.C. She is currently working as a freelance artist and performs and does choreography in addition to teaching barre.

Rachael is also passionate about yoga, feminism, and traveling. She loves traveling and meeting new people from all over the world. She is so excited to be in Seattle and to engage with the people at TRIBE Fitness!

When/where did you first discover Barre: After college, I realized that dancing professionally required more maintenance than technique class and rehearsal alone. Pilates and yoga were my first practices and totally changed the way I live in my body. Barre followed that as way to combine my dance training with fitness.
