Marlys Yvonne

Marlys is a fully certified Equipment and Mat Pilates instructor, receiving her training from Balanced Body in San Francisco, CA and Vitality Pilates in Seattle, WA. She danced professionally for 5 years in a ballet company before exploring more contemporary movement; finding her place here in Seattle and now continues to perform across a wide rang of mediums. Her experience in dance as well as her knowledge of the Pilates system allows her to tailor specialized cross-training regiments that challenge and bring balance to the body. Marlys is excited to bring her skills to TRIBE and will be offering group classes as well as private sessions to clients of all ages, levels, and ability.

Janna Judy

Methods: Reformer Pilates, Power Reformer, Jumpboard, Personal Training
Janna is a comprehensively classically trained Pilates instuctor, completing her teacher training in early 2010. Certified through the PMA. Always learning, she discovered SPX (power Pilates) and was certified with Sebastien Lagree. Recently completed Barre Training with Booty Barre creator Tracey Mallett, finding her inner swan at the barre. Janna believes the mind body connection is important in your workout. Intuitive and observant, with a focus on form and alignment, she will create a thoughtfully fun and sweaty TRIBE experience. When not in the studio, Janna can be found enjoying the outdoors with her Shiba Inu, admiring art or kicking butt at Scrabble.

Shana Davis

Methods: Power Reformer, Yoga
Shana’s background in yoga provides the foundation for her mind body approach to training, nutrition, stress reduction and overall wellbeing. A lifelong student of hatha yoga, Shana became certified to teach vinyasa flow in 2006. Realizing the importance of cross training in a variety of activities in order to achieve a balanced, well-conditioned body and a vibrant, stimulated mind, Shana began practicing a discipline of exercise that combined the fluidity of traditional Pilates with high intensity aerobic conditioning. She found this combination so effective and fun that she completed her SPX training in 2011 and began to teach Sebastian Lagree’s method of total body fitness. Shana’s philosophy is simple: “We’re designed to move and sweat, eat nutritionally dense food, drink water, rest, reflect, and repeat. Sometimes we lose sight of this, I’m here to help folks remember.”

David Lyman

Methods: Reformer Pilates, Reformer: Tone and Stretch, Personal Training (via Pilates, TRX, HIIT, and Foam Rolling)
A Certified Personal Trainer, David believes fitness should be fun first! David loves helping people restore functional stability after injury. He has five years of experience people like you to the world of fitness. David loves researching difficult issues for clients, and he relentlessly keeps up with new scientific evidence as it emerges. Ask David each month about a one-on-one exercise regimen to achieve your personal goals, and we will re-visit the goals monthly. After successfully recovering from ankle, knee, and shoulder injuries, David developed a lifelong commitment to proper movement patterns and an obsession for studying fitness. David’s certifications include: – Pilates Academy International – All Populations Reformer 1 and 2 Certified – Pilates Academy International – All Populations Mat 1 and 2 Certified - NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) – NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) – NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) – NASM Weight Loss Specialist (WLS) – Certified PiYo instructor – Registered TRX instructor David enjoys 100+ mile bicycle rides and has completed the STP, RSVP, and two international bicycle tours. He ran a marathon and two triathlons. He enjoys muscle building, as well as weight loss (he is 30 pounds below his high weight). David recently spent a year in Hawaii, studying advanced fitness techniques. David has performed as a dancer and a singer. When not at the gym, you can find him training in local parks, running, biking, or meditating in the great outdoors.

Susan Foley

Methods: Reformer Pilates, Mat Blast, Personal Training
Susan holds a B.A. in Theater Arts from the University of California at Santa Cruz and is also trained in Ballroom Dance and instruction. She originally came to Pilates through Lisa Graham, founder and owner of Agile Monkey Pilates in Santa Cruz, California. Pilates taught Susan how to understand and work with many of her postural deviations, with which she constantly struggled as a performer. She studied for several years with Jeannette Palmer who inspired and encouraged her to pursue teaching. Susan received her training and certification from Pilates Academy International in New York City. She taught as a senior instructor at Pilates on Fifth and as a recurring substitute instructor at Mark Morris Dance Center. She welcomes students of all fitness levels and incorporates modifications appropriate for each individual to ensure that the everyone is working optimally and safely for their own body, skill level, and background.
This is a workout that is built on the principles of Joseph Pilates. His method is the art of controlled movements, which should look and feel like a workout when properly structured. If practiced with consistency, Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength, develops control and endurance in the whole human body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, form, technique, developing a powerfully strong core, and improving coordination and balance. Pilates' system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises. Some of the movements are technical, but your instructor will help you through them, and your skill will develop.
